Recital Time

Time to show off all that practice. They were really looking forward to their recital and they all did great.

Another Project!

My commitment to school projects quickly fell by the wayside with the baby, and the move, and sickness, and....well, my aversion to school projects. But as part of our astronomy course (yes, we're still working through it) we were supposed to build a model of Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in our solar system. Which happens to be on the planet Mars.

I had everything I needed in the cupboard so I assigned a big to a little and let them go for it. Hailey and Ethan made one, and Sierra and Eli made the other. I encouraged, and took pictures :)

They built salt dough volcanos and let them dry overnight. Then a little baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring created our explosion. A great time was had by all. They worked really well as teams, and the girls were good at letting the boys share fully in the fun. I really should do this more often, I remind myself. Again.

Book Review: Cowboy & Wills

Cowboy and Wills is the story of a boy and his dog. It is the story of a mothers fierce love for her son, the power of love, and the indomitable, fragile, amazing human spirit. It broke my heart and lifted my soul. With wit and grace, Monica Holloway brings you right into her life; in all its messy, wonderful, devastating, uplifting glory. I laughed, and cried, and grew in compassion and understanding. You really can't ask for more than that.

I wouldn't give it to my 13yo to read because there is a slight bit of adult content and a few colorful words. But I might read it aloud to her with some editing.

I haven't made the time for reading nearly as much as I would like to, and this book was great to help me get back into the swing of things. I didn't want to put it down.
