Family Time

Easter 2012
I decided to skip the interim and jump right to Easter. I still hope to fill in the blanks, but today...we're jumping to Easter :-)
It was a really great day. After church we were joined by Matt, Holly, and Gregory, and Dean and Jill, and Lisa, Angie and Sophia. We had lots of good food, good conversation, and good times!
Next year I am going to do a Christian seder on Good Friday. I am excited to try it and it may just become a new tradition. In any case, I am looking forward to a new way to get us thinking about all that we are really celebrating.
We did do something a little different this year, we traditionally hide a few "money eggs", but this year I took the story of the Resurrection from Matthew and cut it into sections of 2 verses each, with the verses un-numbered. We had bright eggs and pastel eggs and we put 2 verses in each egg in each color family. Make sense? So, there were 11 bright eggs with verses and 11 pastel eggs with verses. The eggs with verses inside were marked with an "s", the other eggs had candy. The kids were broken in to two teams and assigned a color family. They had to find their 11 eggs and assemble the scripture in the right order first. There was a bit on confusion and the process needs some fine tuning, but it was a fun twist. The team with Sierra, Eli and Titus carried the day!
I was a busy hostess and didn't take nearly enough pictures. But I did get some pretty cute ones!
We really need to find a prettier backdrop for the group shots! Ah well, the faces are lovely ;-)
I'm including 3 because you need all of them to get a decent shot of everyone. So, you pick!

Christmas 2010
Another year has come and gone and we're a week into the new one. We are back in the thick of things here, working from dark to dark. There is much to do in order to be able to take a break when the baby comes.
Christmas was very nice, we had all the kids together for a moment. It doesn't happen nearly often enough now that we are spread out and they are busy with their own lives. Chance did his best to win over the little girls, garnering a bit more success with Cadence than Annaleise. Anna is a tough sell. But the other kids were all thrilled to have a few brief days with him.
Cadence doesn't really like to smile for me, my camera annoys her. Or maybe it's my incessant attempts to get her to look at me.
The big ones. I'm about done with that brown wall...
Time with big brother always includes lots of wrestling. The bigger boys loved being tossed around like this, Ty - not so much. He was not amused and told Chance never to do that again :-)

It's Begining to Look a Lot Like Christmas...
We finally got the tree up and decorated and the house looking a little more festive. The kids did most of the heavy lifting while I took pictures and picked out background music. Which was nice, because while I love looking at the decorated tree, the actual decorating...not so much.
Tree selection took all of 3 minutes. We all loved the first tree and we promptly brought it home. I love it when that happens.
Christmas is less than 2 weeks away. Every year I'm surprised at how fast it got here. Chance is coming home. He'll be here for far too short a time, as always, but we can't wait to see him. It just doesn't seem right to be the people in his life that see the least of him. I hate that.
We get Kirstyn and her family on Christmas Eve. Yay! So the delimma is whether to do the full blown Christmas thing on the Eve, or just do presents with Kirstyn and Zac and wait another day for the rest. Hailey votes for Eve, but just because she can't wait. I'm leaning toward Christmas Day. I'm a purist :-)

He Is Risen!
We had a very nice Resurrection Sunday, full of family, good conversation, and too much food. I didn't know how mobile I would be able to be so I kept the menu pretty simple, but quantity was another story. I think we'll be eating roast for a week :)
Redneck Easter Baskets

It took Ty a little while to get the hang of it, but now he's hunting with the big kids! This is just before he hung himself on the ropes.
